Q: How can I get involved in the San Diego County Youth Leadership Project?
A: First, locate the youth prevention group in your area. Then, contact the group directly or you can contact us for more information.
No matter how much time you have to offer, we'd love to have you participate. Participating in a regional youth prevention group is a great way to meet new like-minded people, contribute back to your community, and it looks great on a college application or resume.
Q: Where can I find statistics about alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use among youth in San Diego County?
A: Almost every high school student in San Diego County participates in the California Healthy Kids Survey, which asks important questions about youth alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use.
Results from this survey can be found at the San Diego Health Archive in the 2005 Report Card.
Q: If I feel like I or my friend or family member has a substance abuse problem, what can I do to help them?
A: The most important thing to know when you, your family or friends are faced with a substance abuse problem is that recovery is possible.
Even though substance abuse might make you feel hopeless or helpless, there are many programs in San Diego County where addiction treatment can be sought. If you feel that yo, your friend or a family member needs help, the most important thing to do is to tell a trusted adult that you need help.
